Different types of rice used in Chinese cooking, by our Parramatta Chinese restaurant
There are many different types of rice with varying qualities to suit the preferences of our customers at our Parramatta Chinese restaurant. With different qualities such as grain length, stickiness, aroma, texture and flavour, our customers love a bowl of steamed or boiled rice with their meal.
The most common type of rice used at our Chinese restaurant in Parramatta, Chinese white rice comes in a medium to long grain variety, however not quite as long as Basmati rice. When it is cooked, the grains of rice should be fluffy, separate and light.
Chinese Black Rice
Becoming more popular in Chinese cooking, black rice is high in antioxidants and is a healthier alternative in comparison to white rice. Black rice can be used in any Chinese meal, even in a multi-grain porridge.
Also known as sticky rice or glutinous rice, sweet rice is made from short-grain rice kernels. At our restaurant venue in Parramatta, sweet rice is used in savoury meals as well as desserts and sweets. It can be used in meals such as sticky rice cakes, sticky rice pudding and sticky rice dumplings.
